What should you consider when choosing rims for the Ram 1500?
The Ram 1500 changed bolt pattern with the fifth generation in 2019 – from 5x139.7 to 6x139.7. That is one of the most common mistakes when buying rims for a Ram, so it is worth double-checking which generation you have before ordering. The ET value on the Ram 1500 is generally low compared with European cars, often around ET20–ET30, which gives a wide track and a dominant look. Choose the wrong ET and you risk either rubbing against the arch or the rim catching the brakes and suspension.
Bolt pattern and hub diameter on the Ram 1500
The right bolt pattern is the basic condition for a rim to fit. Here is what applies: Ram 1500 (2002–2018): 5x139.7, hub diameter 77.8 mm. Ram 1500 (2019–): 6x139.7, hub diameter 77.8 mm. Which rim size fits the Ram 1500?
The original sizes vary by trim and model year: Ram 1500 Tradesman and Big Horn: 17–22 inches. Ram 1500 Laramie and Limited: 20–22 inches. Ram 1500 TRX: 18 inches with Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT from the factory. Many Ram owners choose to go up to 20, 22 or 24 inches for a more dominant look. Remember that larger rims need a lower tyre profile to keep the overall wheel circumference right; otherwise the speedometer, and at worst the ABS system, is affected.
